POCO M2 Pro will be the next mid-range launch and it is confusing

With the announcement of the new POCO M2 Pro, POCO has now made the whole mid-range category into a puzzling surprise. The new age buyers are dominantly focusing on the mid-range smartphones, and the competition in here is getting gritty with the passing of every day.

POCO M2 Pro

The Xiaomi spinoff brand POCO had come into limelight after the launch of its famous POCO F1 and a relaunch as a separate entity with POCO X2, a competitor to the then noted Realme X2 and Redmi K20.

Last month during an interview, POCO India’s GM, Mr. C. Manmohan, spoke about launching a mid-range device exclusively for India. Notably, a mid-range smartphone from POCO that has been on the horizon for over a month before that. In the first week of May 2020, a smartphone by the name POCO M2 Pro was spotted briefly under the SAR ratings section of Xiaomi India’s website. A week later, the POCO M2 Pro was spotted on Bluetooth and WiFi certification platforms.

Shortly after Poco India officially announced that the M2 Pro was coming on July 7 (via an online event), the phone in question is now spotted on Geekbench.

Poco M2 Pro Specs

Poco’s new phone is expected to be a rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro, so we can expect a Snapdragon 720G, a 6.67-inch Full HD+ LCD screen, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 5,020 mAh battery. Thanks to the new benchmark results, we now know the M2 Pro will come with 6GB of RAM.

Poco’s #FeelTheSurge must refer to the phone’s fast charging, and the Redmi Note 9 Pro uses 30W charging. The quad camera setup consists of a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a 16MP selfie camera.

Geekbench score

The Poco M2 Pro was spotted on Geekbench’s website where it managed to post a score of 554 within the single-core test and 1757 within the multi-core test. This benchmarking result also tipped that the Poco M2 Pro will ship with Android 10 which is obvious. It’s tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm octa-core processor with a base frequency of 1.8GHz but the processor model is unknown. Previous rumours hinted that it can be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC. The Geekbench listing also tipped 6GB of RAM on the upcoming smartphone.

Poco’s retail partner Flipkart also put up a fresh page for the upcoming smartphone. This Poco M2 Pro page tips that Poco M2 Pro will have 33W fast charging support. There aren’t any details about the battery capacity yet. The Poco M2 Pro was also spotted on the BIS certification website bearing the M2003J6CI model number. The phone was also seen on various other certification websites with the identical model number tipping support for Bluetooth 5 and dual-band Wi-Fi.

More details will be available once the phone is launched.
