  • IP67 protection
  • User-removable CR2032 battery
  • Personalisation available

The Cheapest Apple Gadget is a spherical device. It has a laser-etched polished stainless steel finish that gives it a more luxurious look than some of its rivals, and their circular form also sets them apart.

It is rumored to be 32mm in diameter and 6mm thick, but we’re waiting for confirmation.

It comes with a user-removable battery that is said to last a year. This is a regular CR2032 cell, which makes it simple to replace when required.

There’s a built-in speaker, and they’re water and dust resistant to IP67, which means they can be submerged in water for 30 minutes.

It can be customized with an emoji or a name, for example. There are also a variety of AirTag accessories available, such as keyrings and loops, which allow the cheapest apple gadget to be easily attached to different objects, such as backpacks.

Features of this Cheapest Apple Gadget

  • Find My app tracking
  • Precision Finding
  • Ask Siri to find
  • Seamless setup

U1 and Bluetooth connectivity

Apple’s U1 chip is included in the Apple AirTag, as well as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models, the Apple Watch Series 6 and the HomePod mini.

U1 stands for “ultra-wideband” (UWB), a low-energy, short-range radio technology for wireless data transmission. By measuring the time it takes for radio waves to travel between two UWB devices, the distance between them can be calculated even more accurately than Bluetooth, making it ideal for locating lost objects.

It will use Bluetooth in addition to the U1 chip, so anyone with an iOS 14.5 or iPadOS 14.5 smartphone will be able to use them – even if they don’t have the U1.

Simple Pairing

The Cheapest Apple Gadget is just as easy to connect with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad as your AirPods are. You’ll be prompted to connect when you keep the device close to your iPhone, and that’s it; it will be attached to your phone.

You’ll need to be logged into an Apple account and use the Find My service, which requires iCloud access. The device will appear as an item in the Find My app. That’s pretty much it for pairing. You’ll be able to rename your AirTag to anything you want, such as keys or backpack.

Then all you have to do is clip it to your item or slip it into your pocket and forget about it until your item is lost.

Finding with Find My App

When you misplace something, this cheapest apple gadget can come in handy. If you’re at home and misplace your keys, you’ll most likely still be linked to the device via Bluetooth, so you’ll have to rely on the built-in speaker to find them. You’ll be able to ask Siri to locate your devices as well.

You’ll also be able to locate your object using the U1 chip and the Precision Finding system. Since the U1 will use UWB to precisely locate the device, it will be able to direct you to it via your phone’s screen.

That part of the equation is easy to understand. When you step outside the door, things start to get a lot more interesting.

You’ll be able to see the location of your AirTag in your Find My app because your phone knows where it was last seen. At the very least, if you leave anything behind, you’ll be able to retrieve it. However, if your AirTag is truly lost, you can set it to Lost Mode.

The Find My network will then be used to track down your computer. Other Apple devices will be able to identify the missing AirTag as a result of this. This is done in the background, safely and privately, so that if a missing AirTag is found, the owner can be notified of its location. This will all take place in the background, with the owner only receiving a warning indicating the location of the AirTag. The owner can then go and retrieve the lost item.

This is all done in the background, so no one, not even Apple, will be able to see what’s going on. It’s all encrypted, so people won’t be able to detect AirTags and steal them, for example.

This is taken a step further by Apple. If anyone comes across a device with an AirTag, they can tap it with any NFC device to be taken to a website with contact details if the owner has provided it. Someone with a Samsung phone might find your purse in a bar, tap the AirTag, and call you to let you know.

You’ll also be able to identify whether an unknown AirTag happens to be following you to prevent unwanted tracking. This prevents anyone from slipping an AirTag into your pocket and then following you around. You’ll be notified if any AirTags aren’t recognized, and you’ll have the option to disable or return them.
