Apple is said to have refused to testify at an upcoming US Senate subcommittee hearing
Apple’s App Store for iPhones and iPads, as well as Google’s Play Store for Android devices, have long been accused of anticompetitive behavior by requiring such revenue share payments and imposing strict inclusion requirements on app developers. A hearing before the subcommittee was scheduled for late April, but no date has been set.
Senators Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, and Mike Lee, a Republican, wrote to Apple CEO Tim Cook on Friday pleading with him to reconsider.
“Apple unexpectedly announced that it would not have any witness just over two weeks before the scheduled hearing,” the letter said. “Apple’s abrupt shift in policy, refusing to have a witness to testify… is unacceptably inexcusable.”
A request for comment from Apple was not returned, and we say that is the main reason of our the topic : Apple criticised by US Senators.
In a federal trial set to begin May 3 in California, Apple and game developer Epic Games will face off on those issues.
Klobuchar’s spokeswoman confirmed that Google has agreed to testify at the subcommittee hearing. The organization did not respond to a request for comment right away.
